Summer 2016 Exhibition
The exhibition preview was held at the Youth Centre, Broadstone on the evening of Saturday 20th August. Maggie Farmer, Professional Artist based at Pavilion Dance, Bournemouth judged the entries in the “People in Paintings” category.
At the close on Saturday afternoon, 27th August our President Dennis Hill thanked all the organisers particularly Eleanor Eadie and Thea Hodgson for their hard work. Dennis felt that the exhibition had been of a very high standard with a wide variety of work.
There had been nearly 400 visitors. There were 134 hung works on display for the week of which 13 were sold and 40 portfolios of which 3 were sold plus displays of original cards.
Helpers at the Handing In included Anita Cheeseman, Chris Clark, Debbie Clements, Chris Crosby, Chris Gavin, Margaret Hasted, Gill Hunt, Judith Ryde and Carolyn Newman. Wallboards and Lighting - David Herrington with John Britton, Martin Cahill, Robert Reid, Phillip Winkley and Chris Davis amongst others. Sally-Anne Staples had again taken on the task of typing out the catalogue and labels. Iris McCrow supplied the background music.
Val Robinson provided the refreshments at the preview with help from Andrea Hook. Val’s husband Mike, Phillip Winkley and David Herrington acted as barmen. Sue Wirdnam helped with the raffle.
A donation of £100 was given to Julia’s House for the use of their van which was kindly driven by Edwin Gray one of our members who is also a volunteer there.
Award Results and Prizes
Mr Payne from Corfe Mullen was the lucky winner of “Poppies” donated by Dee Cowell. Money from the two exhibition raffles and donations raised over £400 for the 2nd Corfe Mullen Scout Group to help with the upkeep of their HQ where the society meets regularly from mid September to the end of April.

Dennis Hill presented awards as follows at the close of exhibition:
Worth Cup - most popular painting chosen by the public – Andrea Hook for her acrylic painting “Vintage Dress”. This work has also recently featured on the digital versions of The Artist and Leisure Painter Magazines. 2nd was Kathe Holt’s “Wild Fields” and 3rd Sally-Ann Staples “Havana Sings”.
President’s Award for the member showing significant development and progress in their work, Patricia Burns from Marnhull. One of her latest paintings is “Colourful Landscape”.
Heatley Rose Bowl - “People in Paintings” judged by local professional artist Maggie Farmer was won by Iris McCrow of Broadstone for her mixed media work “Night Music”. Maggie was pleased to have been invited to judge this section and felt that there was an accomplished use of mediums and a high standard of work from the 22 members who entered work in this category.
The pictures show Chris Clark our Chairperson with Iris and Dennis with the Rose Bowl and Maggie Farmer with Chris at the Preview together with Iris’s winning picture.
Runner Up was Margaret Hasted of Corfe Mullen with her mixed media work “African Scene”.
